My nephew calls me Teacher Hana and I pleaded with him to call me Auntie Nana.
Who pleads with a child to call her auntie?
And yet when I go to schools, I get called auntie.
APA SEH =_=;

Over lunch on Thursday, Y told me that her brother’s request for early enlistment to NS was rejected. Two days after learning of the news, he flew back to NZ (where here family is now based) to start Uni. He will never (can never?) set foot in Singapore again.
This upsets me.
I’m sure this isn’t a unique situation, that there are others stuck in the same predicament. What can be done for them?
Imagine not being able to go back to the land of your birth. Imagine not wanting to go back to the land of your birth!
If I were him, I would feel rejected by my country.
What does it mean to be a citizen of a country? People come and go, migrate, adopt countries, become permanent residents, etc.
More and more it means less and less to me.

Walao this reporter, go and misquote me in the TODAY paper! I nair take the Bvlgari perfume lah- I said there was Bvlgari and Vera Wang perfumes (among others) and I only took the Vera Wang.
Minah UPSET siah! Minah sounded so el-cheapo lah. Aiya now everybuddy and their mother father know all my Guccipradalouisvuittonguessmarlboro is a fake one, and my Vera Wang is a free one. Busted seh.
(UPSET SIAH is a phrase often used by mats and minahs. It’s very economical because, instead of saying ‘I am feeling upset’ you can just say ‘upset sial/siol/seh/siah/variations’.)
Hahahahaha no lah I’m not upset lah! If you’d like to participate in the next Really Really Free Market, join the Facebook group for updates. It really is a free market!
For the article that made this minah upset, Goo-ger my foo nehm together with TODAY ONRINE. Not sure if it’s still up. Hope it won’t stay there forreverrrrr.

Oh-oh. I search her face for a clue. I can tell she’s racking her brains for my name.
It’s me, Mandee…! she starts
(brain says Mandee: tennis)
OH! I say. From 4/1 (cos we had more than one Mandies)!
WHYYYYYYYYY is it that everyone else looks different (you know, more mature, make-up-and-hairdo-and-all) and I’m the one who gets the hello-did-you-go-to-newtown? question. Meh.
Well it’s always good to meet other blue-and-whites, even if you weren’t close in school, even if you don’t always remember names, it is always… good :)
*hums the Smurfs theme*

“Harlie…?”
I searched her face. Familiar…
“This is Serene! From band, Newtown…?”
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ya! That’s it! Trombone section’s second in command!
MA’AM! I almost said, “Hello, ma’am”. She was my senior in band and I called her ma’am although she couldn’t have been one or two years older than me.
“Ahhh yes I remember,” I said “You look so different!”
“And you haven’t changed..!”
“So I still look gin-nah? Damn.”
“Eh you also go here ah? Good good see you around I’m going for my class now!”
MA’AM! Ten years on, she’s still my ma’am. Some things don’t change.
(Damn do I really still look the same? And if so… is this a necessarily good/bad thing?)

I had a problem with my EEE PC -no it wasn’t the blue screen of death- it would hang whenever I try to connect to the Internet! So reformatted it was, and the people at the service centre in Adelphi were very nice. I also bought a new battery as the old one was weak.
Anyway, I am in the market for a new laptop or desktop. I know this one won’t last long, judging by the way it kaputted right when it’s one-year warranty ended. The new netbooks do tempt me- they are so sleek, so shiny, and so much space in them too (mine’s 4GB… first generation mah wahlao makes it sound damn old).
But I realise that even with a laptop this light, I don’t take it out often enough to justify buying another netbook-kind-of-laptop, so what’s the point.
Eh why am I rambling about my tech-no-no-gy woes? When all I wanted was to say…
WOOHOOO I AM BACK ON THE INTERNEHS!
